If you've been reading for a while, you know that I recently took a week off to deal with some health issues that had reared their ugly head in the wake of the stress I'd been feeling for the last few months. It hasn't been an easy year for me. At the end of last summer, I moved from LA to the Czech Republic, then a few months later went back to the US, lead a retreat in Costa Rica, moved back to Europe (Germany), traveled to Dubai for work, went back to the US (homeless, crashed with our parents), traveled to Miami for a retreat, traveled to Costa Rica for a retreat, finally found a place to live (had no furniture, not even a bed), went to Greece, Italy and Morocco to lead retreats, went back to the US to move into our new place (office tour, home tour), lead a retreat in Upstate New York, and then crashed and burned.

I'm often asked on instagram what I follow for a diet, and I think if you've been following the blog for a while you know I follow the GAPS diet to heal my stomach from longterm antibiotic use for Lyme disease, but I wanted to share some actual meals just in case "Oh I follow the GAPS diet" seemed too vague.

I don't know if it's the warmer weather or what, but whenever spring rolls around I find myself inspired to get. stuff. done. Whether it's just a deep spring clean at my house, a purge of clothing I haven't worn in months, or in my business, I just feel like I have added fuel to get through the things on my to-do list I have ignored for months. Here are six apps to help increase productivity, and efficiency, if you find yourself similarly inspired.

Good morning, friends! We got such a great response from the morning routine I shared last week that I thought I'd invite my friend Carrie from Carrie On Living to share hers. Carrie is a warm, inspirational, super smart woman I had the pleasure of meeting last summer in Santa Barbara, and I know you're going to love her as much as I do. Today, she's sharing her morning routine. Hope you enjoy. xo Candace

Mornings are such a sacred time of the day and my routine gives me a sense of security. I'm an early bird and often wake up in the 5 a.m. hour. If I'm not up by then, I have a certain furry companion who meows relentlessly until I feed her. So, I suppose you could call the first (and totally unglamorous!) part of my morning routine taking care of the little one you see above.

The second part of my morning routine is drinking coffee or hot tea, always caffeinated, and lately I've been experimenting with a blended grass-fed butter version.

The next part of my morning is probably my most significant, and it only takes a few minutes. It's literally just sitting and becoming aware of the moment. Usually I'll turn on some meditative music and light a candle to create an ambiance, but mostly I just try to breathe and let myself feel whatever I'm feeling. I know I'm ready to move on when I have a gentle smile on my face.

Another must to my morning routine is movement. Lately I've been going to an early yoga class, but with the longer days of spring, I also like to go for walks on the beach. With views like this, you can see why, right? :)

The conclusion of my morning routine is breakfast. Leftovers from dinner with a combination of protein and veggies is sometimes on the menu, but I also like a my Coconut Buckwheat Cereal Mix served with a homemade coconut beverage.

Another more unique breakfast recipe that I make a lot is my grain-free Chocolate Cauliflower Porridge served with fresh blueberries that tastes a lot better than it sounds!

My Morning Routine

I don't know why, but learning how other people do things in the morning has always been really interesting to me. For whatever reason, I like knowing if someone is an early riser or someone who sleeps in. If they skip breakfast or start the day with bacon and eggs. Something about how I organize my mornings seems to set the foundation for a great day. Or, a terrible day, depending. Recently I've been experimenting with getting up really early, so I thought I'd share my current morning routine and would love to hear yours in the comments below.
