I don't know why, but learning how other people do things in the morning has always been really interesting to me. For whatever reason, I like knowing if someone is an early riser or someone who sleeps in. If they skip breakfast or start the day with bacon and eggs. Something about how I organize my mornings seems to set the foundation for a great day. Or, a terrible day, depending. Recently I've been experimenting with getting up really early, so I thought I'd share my current morning routine and would love to hear yours in the comments below.
Wake up time: 5:45am, after getting in bed around 9:45pm, reading for a bit and generally falling asleep around 10:00 - 10:15pm.
Use an alarm?: Nope! My body is really weird like that. I can be falling asleep at night and tell myself, "Ok, tomorrow I want to get up at 5:45am" and my body will just do it! If I do need to actually get up at a specific time for an appointment or something I'll set an alarm but 99% of the time I wake up before the alarm. It's weird.
First thing I do after I wake up: I know everyone says not to, but I always scroll through my emails, deleting the junk, reading the important ones and then marking them as unread. I don't respond to any just yet. Then I scroll through instagram, twitter and Facebook (in that order), and read any of the twitter articles that seemed interesting from the news stations I follow there.
Then: Then I get up, take my HCL pills, pet the dog who is always cuddled up on his bed, meditate (I generally do five minutes), and then go in my office to make a list of important To Do's for the day so they're ready to go for later. Then I start breakfast (eggs, loosely scrambled), eat it, brush my teeth, get dressed and go to the gym.
Tell me, what do you do first thing in the morning?
