I’ve been lucky enough to go to Greece a number of times. The Greek Island of Sifnos was the location of one of the first retreats I ever held. I did two more there, and then have been to Santorini four times, and will come back for a fifth this April 2020 for our 200hr Intensive Yoga Teacher Training Program.
Each time I come, I learn something new. The first year, it was a lesson in how powerful the Greek sun is, and subsequently NEVER came back to Greece without good sunscreen. The next time I came, I realized my hair needed a break from heat styling, so I came with air-dry styling product. After that, I learned that many hotels don’t offer beach towels, so I came prepared with a pareo which folded up nicely and weighed nearly nothing. This time around, I remembered how traumatized my poor feet were from the rocks on the beach. The waves would crash, and if you were standing the water, your poor feet would be battered from the small rocks in the waves. I found it really hard to try to get out of the water with how many rocks there were (Santorini is not known for white sandy beaches, ha!), so I brought water shoes I received as part of a collab I did a few years ago with Speedo. Yes, they look ridiculous with a bathing suit, but I slipped them on yesterday when I went into the water for the first time this trip, and oh my GOODNESS, they made a world of difference! They truly made my beach day because I was able to easily walk in and out of the water and had so much more stabilization! If you ever go to Greece, be sure to bring a pair and thank me later!
Other things I never forget to pack for Santorini:
seasick bands (they really work)
Have you been to Santorini before? What are your must have items I might not expect? Let me know in the comments, and if you’re thinking of doing a 200 hour yoga teacher training, I’d love to see you at Namaslay® YTT in April!
