I love jump roping the way Vince Vaughn's character likes maple syrup in The Wedding Crashers. I love how light weight jump ropes are, how you can easily throw them into your carry on and get a good cardio burner in while on the road. I love how fun they are, and how you can mix up your jumps a million different ways and never get bored. Lately, I've been warming up every weightlifting session with a little jump rope action. I put on a song (my current go-to is clique - just has a good beat for jump roping - don't judge me!) and just switch up the ways I jump, always ending in some double unders, which I am still working on but have made serious progress with in the last few weeks.
My jump rope warm up only lasts about five minutes, but at the end of those five minutes I am warmed. UP. I'll usually incorporate:
- simple side to side jumping
- butt kickers
- one foot jumps, switching up the number of jumps on each foot from 1 - 3- 5
- heel toe kind of like a c-walk
- crossed arms, varying the amount of times the rope goes around before switching arms
- high knees (this is super hard with a jump rope!)
- double unders
If you're looking to switch up your warm ups, definitely give this a try! Do you like jump-roping? Do we need to have a jump rope party to follow up our push up parties?!
