Ah the splits. Sometimes I can slide right into them, and sometimes I can't. So I'm working on incorporating them more into my practice along with major hip opening and lots of stretching. When I was in Michigan a few weeks ago I took full advantage of the walls in the house and thought I'd share one of the ways I like to switch up my splits practice.
Before you give this a try, be sure you are very warmed up through the hips.
1. Begin by coming into downward facing dog as close to the wall as you can be. Double check that the armpits are long and you're really plugged into the ground by pressing especially into the thumbs, index fingers and base of your pinkies.
2. Lift one leg and slide the foot up the wall. Press more into the hands so nearly all the weight is in your arms and breathe, breathe, breathe.
3. Come down and take it over to the other side.
Let's talk Are splits a part of your practice? Any other pose you're trying to work into your practice more consistently?
