So we moved in to our live/work space at the very end of March but I've been traveling a lot so we're still settling in. (And by that, I mean we only got a bed about a month ago and I still don't have a light in my office but with all this natural light I guess I don't really need it.) The other thing is that for the last, oh, six years or so, we have lived in places that were either furnished vacation rentals or furnished apartments supplied by my husband's job (and that changed every single year), so decorating was never something we did given that we'd always be moving again within a few months. I think over time, I sort of became intimidated by decorating. I mean, don't get me wrong, I can cruise through Pinterest and I know exactly what I like, but going to a bunch of stores and selecting this and that and putting them all together in a room so it feels cohesive? Uh, no. It gives me hives just thinking about it.
But since I've committed to be in this space for at least a full year, which is the longest I've stayed in one place in a very, very long time, and since we didn't own anything in terms of furniture, I had to get shopping unless I wanted to sleep on the hardwood floor!
I aimed for a clean, bohemian vibe with a minimalist twist since this is a renovated factory with twenty foot ceilings and thirteen foot windows. Our place has amazing natural light and is nice and bright. I thought I'd share my little workspace with a tour. While it's not completely finished yet, I'm so grateful to feel settled, and I wake up every morning so happy to walk into my office.
I spend the majority of my day at my desk. I wanted a big, open space for a desk and I fell in love this one from Pottery Barn. I didn't love the price tag, but I figured I would have it for a long time and since I spend the majority of my day at my desk, I'd better love it. Haven't regretted that purchase!
Always on my desk is my life planner by Erin Condren (side note: #girlboss - that brand has a following unlike any other!). I didn't love the price of the life planner any more than the desk, but I haven't found anything similar and it's just so good. It's where I keep plans for all YBC posts, retreats, appointments, consults, etc., so I figured that since it was perfect I'd just pony up and invest in it.
On my computer are my headphones. I especially love them for travel because they're noise canceling but I wear them daily when I want to focus. For some reason I focus better with music playing on my headphones than on a speaker. Why?!
Next to my computer you'll see a cup that holds all my pens and pencils and it was handmade by my dad, who used to work as a glass blower. Next to that is an agate coaster that I absolutely love. I am always sipping throughout the day and since I didn't want to pay for a glass top to protect my desk, I think this does the trick, at least to protect it from condensation from my drinks.
Also on my desk right now: a polaroid camera (so fun - oh, and on sale right now!) and some pics from Greece.
In a nook in my office, I have a rolling clothes rack where I keep pants I'll wear for shoots. I thought I'd share two of my favorites:
On the left, we have a really funky pair that I love for their design. They're so different from my other pants. These are by werkshop. The ones on the right are my favorite for not only design, but functionality. Normally I don't care for pants that don't have a seam down the front because I just think they're not flattering on me, but I like how these look, and more importantly, I love how they feel. They're super stretchy, yet have a lot of compression. They sort of suck you in, yet are comfortable and stay put while you're practicing. Right now, the ones on the right by PrismSport are my go-to.
I often have people come into the office so it's nice to be able to quickly pull up a chair, and I like that it pretty much feels like it's not there when I need to set it in the corner. I really don't like a lot of clutter, so this acrylic chair makes the room feel more open. I threw a faux fur pillow on it just for a little somethin' somethin'.
This dream catcher makes me so happy. It sits right behind my desk and it's giant, and fluffy and just so, so pretty. It's a custom dream catcher from 54UniqueBoutique on etsy (and, good news! She's offering $7 off your purchase of $20+ if you use coupon code YOGA7 when emailing her).
I have two big shelving units in the office and they're where I store swag for upcoming retreats, products we need to review on the blog, and some DVD inventory. On this shelf - coconut oil, and coconut water.
I'm not a huge shopper but when I travel, I like to pick up things that remind me of the country. The elephant on the left is from my trip to India, and the rhino on the right is from my trip to Morocco. Also on the window sill are paleo cookbooks from my friend Primal Palate.
Annnnd in case you're wondering why I don't show a beautiful, wide-angle image of my office, it's because it really looks like a bomb went off! These are just some the boxes and things for the YBC Mantra Subscription Box which I hope will go out next week! Eeeeek!
Stay tuned for next week, when I'll show part 2 - the studio where we shoot, and some of our living space. Hope you enjoyed!!
Let's talk What's in your office? How do you feel about decorating? Does it intimidate you as much as it does me, or are you a natural?!
