Hey hey we're back with another Workout Wednesday. I was traveling again so was a little off from my normal routine which is a bummer because I have a huge project coming up that I would like to be in the best shape of my life for. (Hoping to reveal the project next week!) I know I'm in good shape, but I'd like to lean out a little bit and want to be sure I do it in the healthiest way possible - no crash dieting or anything like that for me. So my plan is:
- Diet: I'm keeping my diet the same (GAPS/Paleo-ish), but will focus on being really conscious about avoiding sugar, which has sort of snuck its way into my diet the last few months here and there in the form of cookies, macaroons and other junk food. The other part of my plan is to eat more food, and with more frequency (believe me, it works) and to prep better.
- Exercise: I'm going to be adding some dreaded cardio to the mix in the form of sprint intervals which I sort of got away from when I sprained my ankle back in April. I'll also be much more conscious of taking much needed rest days. They're so important.
- Sleep: I want to start winding down earlier at night and getting to sleep earlier. I don't think I sleep enough and I know it impacts both my physical and mental wellbeing.
- Watching stress levels: This recent travel nudged my stress levels up so I want to be sure to stay on top of them this time so I don't have a repeat episode of what happened this summer.
So that's my plan and I'll keep you posted on how it goes.
The week for me started out in Michigan, where I was visiting my husband who took a job out there. He really enjoys getting me fired up by telling me what I can't do. I don't actually think he believes I can't do these things, I think he just gets a kick from how irritated I get when someone tells me I can't do something. There's no better motivation in my book. Anyway, we were working out and I had just finished my ba-rutal workout above. There I was, catching my breath like any old normal person who just kicked her own ass and he goes, "Hey I bet if you put that weighted vest back on you wouldn't be able to do even one push up."
And then I was like
And pumped out five. So.
I was actually crazy sore from wearing the weighted vest (30lbs) for walking lunges that I ordered one as soon as I got home. I got this one because it was on sale, and had free shipping for Prime members. It just came in yesterday, and I can't wait to start using it.
In other news, I was psyched when Stupid Easy Paleo gave me some tips for my snatch lift which I know....is not very good. She suggested bringing my shoulders over the bar if not slightly past the bar, and this will help to bring the focus into my hamstrings. If I hadn't been super sore the next day I would've given it a try the following day just because I think it's a small, easy fix that is going to make a huge difference. Instead, I...
went in and did a complex of thirty clean and jerk/overhead squat/3 back squats/jerk, followed by 40 of these low abs and 60 burpee box jumps which, for the record, are as miserable as they sound. After that I had to stretch like crazy because my hips and low back were super tight.
PS The bra I'm wearing here is on super sale right now!
Afterwards, I took a bath using this body soak sent to me from Aura Cacia. This had pink himalayan salt, red clay, and ginger and lime essential oils. It smelled fantastic and my body loved it.
Today is a much needed rest day.
Let's talk: I'd love to know - what are you working on in your strength program? Have you ever tried a weighted vest? What exercises did you do with it? Did you love/hate it?
