A few weeks ago, I went up to Hotel Marlowe, a Kimpton hotel in Cambridge, to film a series of hiit workouts and a yoga video to complement our partnership for this year. Their gym is one of the best I've seen when it comes to hotel gyms. It's not big, but it certainly has everything you need for an effective hiit workout while you're traveling.
In this video, we'll be doing a dumbbell snatch and air squat hiit workout. The sequencing is 21-15-9-15-21, which means we will do 21 dumbbell snatches followed by 21 air squats, then 15 dumbbell snatches followed by 15 air squats, then 9 of each, then 15 of each, and finishing with 21 of each. It won't be easy, but it'll be over before you know it. :) Alternatively, I suggest modifying to suit your energy level, fitness level, or schedule. Maybe just do 21-15-9 and end it there? Figure out what works for you - there's no wrong way to do this, anything is better than nothing if you're looking to improve your fitness.
I believe I am using a 20lbs dumbbell (I can't quite remember and I can't see the number on the weight in the video. Just use whatever weight feels good to you. You want it to be a little heavy, so that it's actual work for you to pick up and put down, but you don't want it to be so heavy that your alignment is compromised. This is where you need to trust yourself and use good judgement. Watch the video for tips on how to do a dumbbell snatch and good air squat so you get the most out of your workout.
Give the video a try and let me know how it goes for you down in the comments section below!
Shop the look *affiliate links* - I love high waist leggings, and wear them all the time for working out because they stay put when you're moving, have good compression, and make me feel secure. Here are a few I love:
