Style Series is an installment on YBC to help get me out of my leggings & lipstick go-to look. I've always, obviously, wanted to feel put together, but growing up, I really never took the time to try to figure out what looks good on my body type, so this series is all about trying to figure that out.
Velvet booties are everywhere so I realize I am not bringing you ground-breaking sartorial content with this outfit here, but that's not the point of this series. The point is to get out of my athleticwear comfort zone, so here we go.
Last fall, I kicked myself for not purchasing these insane Rebecca Minkoff blue velvet booties. They were perfection, and to this day they haunt me. On a mission to avoid making the same mistake again, I spotted these booties at Nordstrom a few weeks back and they were under one hundred (and now are on sale!), I figured I'd give them a go even though they were not the deep blue pair I'd envisioned. I'm cool with this mauve, though - it's such an unexpected neutral. Below are a few others I'm loving as well as this pair.
I paired them with my One Teaspoon jeans, which are a great budget-friendly brand, if you're in the market for jeans. I am a little bit of a jeans snob. Nothing really has ever fit me well aside from J Brand and Frame, but everyone raved about One Teaspoon and they were a good price point so I snagged a pair a few months ago and am loving them. I do wish the cut were just a tad more straight leg rather than skinny cut - I think that would've looked better with these shoes, but I guess you can't win 'em all.
The top is an old Brandy Melville sweater that I'm crazy about for its slouchy off the shoulder fit. It's so cozy and quintessentially fall. Below are a few others I'm eyeing.
So, I'm a fan of these booties. I also feel like they could go with boyfriend jeans and a fitted tee - I'll have to give that a try this weekend. I'd love to know what trend you're into trying out this season. It seems like statement booties are having a moment, and the fanny pack worn as a crossbody seems to be a thing as well. Also, #allthebloggers are wearing the pageboy hat. I always feel like an idiot wearing any kind of hat other than a baseball cap, so that look isn't for me, but I have always loved the look of these Janessa Leone hats. We'll see. Your turn!
