With social distancing still going very strong as we all work to flatten the curve of COVID-19, I thought I’d share some photos from my phone to show what my life has been like lately. While Namaslay® Studios was mandated to close its physical doors, I’ve adapted quickly and started teaching much more frequently, online, so try to keep the business afloat. Buckles will often come with me to the studio for filming.
Creativity During Quarantine
As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, further developing Hip Hop Yoga has been one of the best things to come out of this for me. For the first time in a long time I feel creatively challenged to really suss out the meat of this class and make it something cool. I’m not 100% there yet, but each time I do it, I feel like I’m getting closer and I’m really excited about it.
Getting Outside of my Comfort Zone
I’ve been teaching a lot virtually, and getting to do virtual meetings as well - above is the Business of Yoga 2.0 module I did. Live streaming is something that was way out of my comfort zone, but the more I do it, the more comfortable I feel. I love seeing pics of people’s workouts from classes they have taken with us, and this family one here is from our member Michele. I think the silver lining in this is that I really feel connected to people teaching via Zoom. We’ve had not only our regular members from the studio but also people from all over the world - Scotland, Hong Kong, Spain, Germany, and all throughout the US. It is so neat!
Feeling Good
This meme cracked me up but in all seriousness, on Stories the other day I posted my silver hair coming in and so many people chimed in saying they were so happy to see they weren’t the only one “suffering” (let’s use that term loosely, shall we?! We all know not being able to go to the salon is not a real problem). Anyway! Yep, my silvers are coming in, my brows look like a hot mess, and I am really looking forward to feeling all done up again!
Until then, though, I’m doing the little things. I painted my nails the other day (Ballet Slippers) - for the first time in a year, and it brightened my day. I’ve also been using my favorite self-tanner (and here’s the face self tanner I use). And every night I use NuFace while watching our new show Peaky Blinders (the name sounds so dumb for a gang, it reminds me of like a sister restaurant to Hooters or something, but it’s SUCH a good show).
On Staying Mindful
While some days we all feel like this, I have been trying to find joy in the little things, and stay mindful. It took me a while to get there, though. The first two weeks of this were a real challenge for me, both mentally (who will my business survive) and physically (going stir crazy, feeling anxious). But within the last week or so, things really started to feel a bit lighter. I recently picked up an old favorite book on mindfulness, which served as the inspiration for my daily newsletter I’ve been sending out which shares a tip for a more mindful, positive day.
And that’s about it! I’ve been working, reading, watching tv, and just generally trying to keep myself mindful, positive, and hopeful. It’s an effort to steer myself in the direction of positivity, but it’s worth it. Dan and I will be recording another podcast this weekend and I’ll be touching on positivity and mindfulness a bit more - let us know what else you’d like to hear about down in the comments section below.
