Posture is something I am super interested in right now, and one of the things I’ve been noticing with programming for my personal training clients is that many of them have fallen arches. I wanted to offer a short movement practice that incorporates foam rolling, strength movements and yoga to help people on their way to improving their fallen arches.
Basically, when you have fallen arches, it’s very likely that your toes are turning out due to very tight IT bands and peroneals, and underactive, or weak, adductors. So we want to lengthen the lateral sides of the legs with foam rolling and strategic stretching, and strengthen the adductors. Then, the bigger piece of this, is about developing the mind-body awareness to start to re-train your movement patterns so you learn to stand at rest and walk with your toes points forward, and arches lifted. This may help to improve back pain and overall static and dynamic posture.
Hope the video is helpful! If you’re interested in more postural stuff, I just posted a Workout for People who Slouch on the YogaByCandace® App, which you can find available for iOS and Android. You can also check out our Posture Program.
