Disclaimer: A few weeks back we did a writer call-out here on YBC because I'll be traveling a lot this summer, and thought the travel time would be a good opportunity to make YBC a more collaborative blog. We received a huge number of submissions and reading your pitches was so much fun and truly underscored the amount of talent you guys have. We've filled up out slots for this summer, but will be doing another write call-out next season, so stay tuned. Until then, today we're kicking off our reader contributions. Hope you enjoy. Working our bodies in a physical sense is something we can all relate to. Sweating, stretching, and toning, it’s a normal part of our week. But what about working on our vibe? Our internal thoughts and mindset have everything to do with our perspective, which in turn can affect how our days and weeks progress.
If we allow our negative inner voice to run rampant, we become its slave. Instead, putting effort toward raising our vibe, is energy well spent. Make it a daily practice. Let’s tweak our inner monologue to resemble an uplifting conversation between best friends; chock full of understanding, forgiveness, and kudos.
Here are a few easy ways for an insta-vibe raise.
Go Outside
I know it sounds simple, but it’s a serious mood lifter. Step away from the keyboard, leave your phone at home, and go out for a walk. Even ten minutes will make a huge difference in your day. I like to stand under a big tree and look up. It helps remind me how big the world is, and how small my problems are.
Turn Up the Volume
Music can alter our entire state in moments. Find a song that reminds you of a fantastic time in your life and turn it up loud. Or, if you have an upcoming trip you’re excited about, choose a song for your travel playlist and play it early and often. Bonus: If it’s a dance number the endorphins from shaking it in your living room will help clear away the low vibes as well.
Ambiance - Shake it Up
Making small changes in our space can have a big impact on our emotions. Start by cleaning and putting away random items accumulated during the week. Spending time in a chaotic environment tends to spill over into our mental talk. Once tidy, add in a few touches that make you smile. No need to break the bank, it may be something you relocate from another room or a new candle or house plant. Changing things up works wonders.
Try Something New
Getting out of a rut and breaking tired old patterns can unlock all kinds of good vibes. It doesn’t have to be anything earth shattering — or it can be. You choose. Stop in a coffee shop you’ve always wanted to (but never have) for your morning cup. Try a different class at the gym, order the book your friend has been swearing is delicious, but you just never put it in your cart. Have a full blown adventure. It doesn’t matter what it is. Just that you take the step.
Give Yourself Some Mental Space
I resisted using the heading “meditation” because I can hear the groans from a mile away. Instead, I like to focus on the benefit of a daily 5-minute meditation. Breathing room. In my head. Quieting the constant chatter enough to get a moment’s peace. It tempers my reactions to issues or problems that arise during the day and helps me find some space of my own.
I'd love to hear your input. Do you have any specific things you do to reset and raise your vibe? Let me know down in the comments section below.
