One of the most frequent things I see in my personal training clients is fallen arches and drooping medial ankles, and the cue I give is to “push into the footprint” of each foot. I’m a really visual person, so I wanted to create a blog post to help people better understand what I mean so that they can begin to improve their posture, reduce or eliminate their knee or back pain, and improve their fallen arches.
Weakened ankles are often due to ankle injuries like sprains that weren’t rehabbed properly. When you have one fallen arch, the SI joint can come out of alignment causing low back pain. Since we feel the pain in the low back, it’s easy to focus on that area, but the root cause in this case would be the fallen arch.
Before we can address the roof of a house. we have to consider the foundation. Think of the feet as your foundation. Since we’re mostly upright, it makes sense. Addressing the weight distribution and ensuring you’re pressing into the footprint of each foot is one step to improving the foundation of your posture. Check out the video below for a visual as to how this impacts the feet.
Hope this is helpful!!
