We made it! Yeah!! It was a long road trip from California to Connecticut, but we did it in three and a half days. My dog Buckles was a total champ, and didn't make a peep the entire way. I don't know how we got so lucky.
GAPS diet on the road
I bought a couple snacks and I packed a couple meals just like on our way out there- some cooked meat and veggies, homemade yogurt and some bone broths, which I know look gross but they're pretty good if you season them well. I just heated up the broth at night and in the morning at the hotel room and drank up. I honestly notice a huge difference in how I feel when I drink it. Road trips, and travel in general, usually go hand in hand with inflammation in my body. At the end of a long day on the road, my joints tend to swell up and it's extremely uncomfortable. My go-to remedy is an epsom salt bath (which I buy in little packets at whole foods) with essential oil and bone broth.
It was a beautiful drive, to be honest, especially through Utah and Colorado (I think Colorado wins the award for most beautiful state), but after a while I just wanted to get out of the car. After Colorado, it's just flat, flat, flat. We were lucky though, we didn't hit any traffic or bad weather.
Connecticut has turned so green since we left in May - it's beautiful. And you can imagine how happy Buckles was to be off leash after a summer in Los Angeles!
Have you ever gone on a road trip? Was it a good experience? What'd you do to pass the time?
