I recently got the Dyson Airwrap Styler during the Sephora Beauty Insider Sale, which I was psyched about because I got it at 20% off. I love Sephora’s return policy because it’s really lenient - you can try anything and return it if you don’t love it. I figured that’s what I’d do in this case, although I had a feeling I’d like it since everyone I know who has the styler loves it.
Upon opening it up, I was bummed to realize I’d ordered the one Volume and Shape Styler for Fine Hair, which doesn’t come with bigger curlers like the Airwrap Complete, but I remember my stylist saying I have fine to medium hair, I just have a lot of it. Since I really didn’t want to spend any more money than I already had, I figured I’d try it out and see if I felt like I needed the regular one. Turns out, I don’t think I need the regular one, and the more I read about it, the more it seems like the Airwrap Styler Complete includes those bigger curlers for people with very thick, textured hair.
I’ve played around with it for a few weeks, and I truly do love it. Here’s why:
It takes about 10 minutes to style my hair using the round brush attachment, vs taking me about 30 using a regular hairdryer and actual round brush.
It takes about 20 minutes to style my hair using the curling iron attachments, vs taking me about 50 using a hairdryer, brush and curling iron.
I get more consistent looking blowouts than with my standard hairdryer and brush. I think this has to do with Dyson’s Pre Styling Dryer attachment. You use that to rough dry your super wet hair and get it about 60 percent dry. This thing works SO fast, it’s unbelievable. The other reason
There’s no extreme heat so you’re not damaging your hair. The Dyson technology keeps the heat under 302F, which keeps your hair protected from extreme heat and also keeps it shiny. It’s crazy how shiny my hair looks with it!
I thought I’d share a few of the hairstyles I’ve done with it, so here we go:
Straight Hair with Dyson Airwrap Styler
For this straight hair, I prepped with Kenra Blow Dry Spray after getting my hair about 60% dry with the pre-styling dryer, and used the flat brush attachment. I didn’t segment my hair at all, just took about two inches of hair and ran the flat brush attachment through it all the way around. I couldn’t keep tension through the brush, so I pulled the brush straight down towards the ground so there wasn’t much volume at the roots and so it would lay really flat, which is what I wanted.
Smooth Hair with a Flip
First of all, this shine is bananas, right?! For this style, I used the pre-styling dryer attachment, and then put a dime sized amount of IGK Hair Hydrating Hair Balm in my hair once it was about 60% dry. Then I used the round brush attachment but pulled it straight out away from my head, so my hair was perpendicular to the floor, to give it a little volume. Then, for a little flip at the ends, I wrapped the hair around the round brush for about 5-8 seconds and gave it a shot of cold hair to seal it in.
Round Brush Quick Blow Dry
Ok I know there’s nothing special about this (except maybe the shine- how?!), but I wanted to show you what a quick, not trying at all, hairstyle looks like when you run the round brush through it. This took about fifteen minutes, and I used IGK Good Behavior to prep after getting the hair 60% dry first. I put half my half up on my head in a topknot, round brushed straight out at about a 45 degree angle, and then took the topknot down and did the same up top.
Soft Curls and Waves
Ok so this is what it looks like when I take my time. I’ve found that for me, I like my hair best with a combo of the round brush and the curling attachments. The curling attachments alone look a little too curly for my liking, so I do the round brush through it all the way, and then add in a few curls with the curling attachment. After drying it about 60% I prepped my hair with Ouai Wave Spray.
Sleek with Soft Curls at the End
So on this day, I tried to do only the curling attachments. I will say they take a few days of trying, googling, watching tutorials, and learning to figure them out. I did not like the outcome on me at all. It was very “Bo-Peep” and I couldn’t handle it, so I ran through it with the round brush which pulled the curls mostly out - I left the ones you see in the front here. This result was giving me Old Hollywood vibes which wouldn’t be a daily look for me, but was fun to play around with.
Overall, I am loving this styler. I still feel like there is room for improvement in terms of me learning how to use the curling attachments, and I do want to show you how it all works in a video soon, so stay tuned for that. But in the meantime, if you were on the fence as to whether it’s a good investment, I’d say go for it. It has saved me so much time, and is a lot better for my hair!
