If you are a regular at power yoga, hot yoga, or any rigorous workout class, it's likely you'll want to refuel immediately afterwards. I don't know if I'm just dramatic, but sometimes after a particular sweaty yoga class or hard training session, I will literally feel weak despite eating a lot prior (if you follow me on snapchat - @yogaby_candace you know what I'm talking about #gimmeallthefoods).
Sweating is one of the ways in which we can rid the body of toxins but it's also one of the ways we lose important minerals. That's why it's important to rehydrate with electrolytes. I like to make my own electrolyte drink by mixing water, a splash of pure cranberry, a splash of beet or ginger kvass (bonus, this has probiotics), the juice of half a lemon and a bit of himalayan salt.
I recently just started adding a protein powder and L-glutamine powder to the above drink. I chose this protein powder because it is 100% grass-fed whey protein and doesn't contain anything else, not even a lechitin (an emulsifier which is super hard on the digestive tract).
My mom is the type of person who travels with a legit cooler in the back of her car because she HATES to be hungry. I used to make fun of her for it because she seriously can't go anywhere without this cooler, but apparently I am my mother's daughter because lately I usually bring food with me. I don't bring a giant cooler with me, but I have this sleek bag (ok, well, as sleek as you can get for a cooler bag) that I've had for years and love (read the review for this bag here) and a typical refueling meal will be something like the above: salad with romaine, cucumber, pepper, carrot, radish, fermented beets, ground turkey, bacon, cashew and dried cran with some lemon juice, salt, pepper and ground ginger.
Sometimes, if I feel like I really need to eat something RIGHT THIS SECOND (aka h-anger) and haven't brought anything with me, I will eat a cricket bar (they legit don't taste any different from any other bar out there). (Side note: You can use YOGABYCANDACE for 15% off if you want to try!)
So that's how I refuel - I'd love to hear what you typically eat or drink to refuel and rehydrate after a vigorous class down in the comments below.
