Continuing our Real Talk series (I’ve shared photos from LA and Costa Rica so far), which shares the stories behind various photos, I’m talkin’ teacher training today. This photo was taken in Chiang Mai, Thailand, where we held our very first Namaslay® 200hr Yoga Teacher Training intensive (the next one will be in Santorini this spring!).
Shoot Location: Chiang Mai, Thailand
What it looks like: Me proudly taking photos of our YTT trainees.
What’s really happening here: It was the end of the first week, and people were exhausted. There were many long days in this hot shala, with lots of mosquitos and a tremendous amount of lectures and practice. Part of my job was the logistical side of this training. I wrote the curriculum, secured the venue, and everyone arrived safely and we got to work. But my job doesn’t end there. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that while you’re at the event you’ve put on, you’ve got to find time to take pictures and marketing assets that you can use in real-time on social media to generate buzz, and you also need to remember to get even more assets that you can use to promote events you’ll do in the future. So there I am, run down and exhausted but needing to capture those images. It’s not at all a complaint - I love my job - but it’s one of the common issues that entrepreneurs and small business owners deal with - they often have a lot on their plate. The benefit to that is that you get to know every aspect of what makes a company tick inside and out. The downside is, well, you’re tired. But as my cousin Keith says, “I can sleep when I’m dead!” :)
