Disclaimer: This post is brought to you by Mother Dirt, this super cool small business that is asking you to change the way you think about skin health. I am absolutely in love with their products! While YBC was compensated for the post, all opinions - as always - are our own.
We're back with another installment of Weird Health Trends, where we share our latest finds that are a little bit...different from the norm.
Would you spray live bacteria on your skin in the name of health?
It sounds bizarre, but it's one of the latest emerging health trends and in trying it out the last few weeks, I have to say it's something I can definitely get behind.
So, Mother Dirt makes AO+ Mist, which is the first and only live probiotic for the skin. We know that probiotics are essential to a healthy gut and digestive tract, but who knew it was beneficial to our skin as well?
Actually, I did. I often will make face masks out of homemade yogurt and honey, and the yogurt just does something to my skin that calms it right down. The Mother Dirt products are far less messy and less time consuming to use, so they're obviously my daily pick. The AO+ Mist contains AOB, a live bacteria, that is found in dirt. Hundreds of years ago, AOB naturally lived on our skin, but up until about one hundred years ago, our harsh soaps and skin care products wiped them out. (This bacteria still lives on the skin of the people in non-industrialized places like the Amazon.)
What's so great about this AOB stuff?! They eat the ammonia in your sweat (what causes smell) and convert it into nitric oxide. The AOB help reduce body oder as well. I am fascinated by this!
I've been using the mist first thing in the morning, right before I work out and after I shower. It feels light, refreshing, and my skin feels great. Would you spray live bacteria on your face?! Let me know down in the comments section below!
PS: Mother Dirt also makes a shampoo and a cleanser - great alternatives if you're looking to get away from conventional products!
