In packing for my trip to Greece, I had a dilemma. I'd been to Greece a handful of times and while I pretty much never burn, the sun in Greece is so unbelievably strong that I knew I needed to get some sort of long sleeve, lightweight cover up.
While perusing the mall before I left, I dipped into Abercrombie and Fitch, of all places, drawn in by the sales, and certainly not the smell (if you've never been, they spray a ton of cologne around the whole store so you inevitably end up walking out with a headache). Now, I haven't shopped here since college, but they were having an additional 25% off their sale items, and I found this linen shirt in the mens' (boys'?) section. I'm not normally a button up kind of person - I feel like they're so stuffy, and just the opposite of my style (which, if I'm being honest, I'm still trying to figure out what that is), but since it was on sale for $19.99 (plus an additional 25% off that!), I knew it'd work perfectly for Greece. I was pumped to not have to spend an arm and a leg on a cover up that I might only wear for a week.

I wound up being pleasantly surprised by the button up, though. The barely pink color was perfect, and I wore it for its intended purpose, as a cover up on the sailing trip we took, and many times by the pool. But then I realized it didn't have to be stuffy, and I'd thrown it on with my lived-in shorts from Urban Outfitters before dinner.
Side note: I just loved how my hair cooperated in Greece! It was the one positive that came out of the sticky humid weather there! And the fig trees outside our rooms?! I couldn't help myself...had to grab a little snack fresh off the tree whenever I was hungry.

I feel like the key to balancing out a potentially stuffy piece is to pair it with something distressed. I love these boyfriend jean shorts so much. I really like that they're a little shorter on the sides - see how the hem is made to look like it's sort of folded up there? They're actually stitched that way which I think is more flattering on my short legs than one even straight-across cut. I also appreciate the slightly longer cut in the back so I feel a bit more covered. They're low-rise, and I know high waist is all the rage right now but man high rise is just not that comfortable to me. I have a pair and will wear them now and then, but I find I always reach for these whenever possible.

I swear, every inch of our retreat venue was photo-worthy! I cannot wait to go back again... and speaking of going back, stay tuned because I have an exciting announcement in a few days.
Until then, I'd love to hear how you style a linen button up. Let me know down in the comments section below.
