PSA: We have one spot left at our Italy yoga retreat and a few spots left at our Morocco yoga retreat - both are happening this August. Also, if you review our yoga app and send a screenshot of it to Lauren, you'll receive a free gift. And lastly, our book Namaslay is now available for preorder.
We're back with another post for Beauty Files, a series on make up, hair, and all things beauty.
There have been some lipstick requests lately, so I thought I'd put together a little tutorial on how I do my lipstick and liner. There are a number of ways to do it and much like yoga, there probably isn't one "right" way. I've worked with some amazing make up artists and a few have said to do the liner after the lipstick, and others have said to do it before. I say just do what works for you.
Lipstick is something I'm pretty new to in the past two years or so. I love the look of it but was always scared to wear it because I felt like a complete clown. However, now I feel naked without it and my favorite thing to wear is lipstick....with a sweatshirt, haha. If there were an outfit that you had to put together to represent you that'd be mine - lipstick and a sweatshirt. Anyway, my point is, don't be scared. Life is way too short to be worried about looking like a clown when you wear lipstick! My best advice, if you're someone new to lipstick, is to start with "safe" colors - colors you feel comfortable in. Nudes or soft pinks will work. From there, over time, you'll probably become more inspired to wear bolder shades and before you know it you'll be solely gravitating towards those bright colors!
My late grandmother used to wear lipstick all the time. Bright reds and oranges were her jam. She's also use it as a cheek stain, and against her gorgeous Lebanese skin tone, it looked great on her. Every time I put lipstick on I think of her. She was the best person in the world.
Ok, so let's get down to it. I start by doing the rest of my make up first. Then, I line my lips. In the vid I am using candy yum yum liner and candy yum yum lipstick. Sometimes I get a little Kylie and over-line my upper lip if I'm feeling crazy. Other times, like what you see in the vid above, I'll just line them directly where the lip meets the skin. From there, I'll shade the entire lip. I do this generally with bright, bold colors because it'll make the lipstick pop more. Then, I run the lipstick over my lips and call it a day. Hope you enjoy!!
I'd love to know: What lipstick/lip liner colors are you into right now? Any special favorites? And if you were to put together an outfit that represented who you are, what would you look be? And if you have any requests for future Beauty Files let a sista know (I've got a lashes q & a in the works).
PS: Some other colors I love below
