I’m a make up lover. Give me a purple smokey eye, an orange-red lip, and all contour. Not at the same time, mind you, but I am down for all of those individually. Make up has never really been about covering up for me; I don’t think anyone “needs” make up. But I like accentuating my eyes with a smokey eye, or brightening up my face with a pop of color on my lips, and I am all about people doing what makes them feel good. Do I go out without make up now and then? Definitely. But more often than not, I just feel more put together with make up. It’s also a part of my routine to start my day. I wake up, have my coffee, make breakfast, brush my teeth, put on my make up, get dressed, and boom - I’m ready for the day. Part of it, for me at least, is about the routine of it. But don’t get me wrong - like I said, I love playing with different make up looks.
However, when it comes to summer, I want things easy and simple. Earlier this summer, I went on the hunt for just a little something I could wear all over my face. I wanted something to neutralize and even out my skin tone, something that was lightweight, but not so lightweight that it was barely there. I wanted more coverage than a tinted moisturizer but less coverage than a foundation. I wanted make up that didn’t come across like it was make up. Did that even exist?
Turns out it does. After asking my make up artist friends, I tried Urban Decay Naked Skin once and never looked back. This thing is the holy grail of the no make up make up look for me. I’m wearing it in the picture above from my trip to France, and as you can see, it’s exactly what I’d been looking for. It’s not cakey or heavy, yet it gives just the right amount of coverage for the no make-up look I’m going for. When I want a little more coverage, I start by applying my concealer in the shape of an upside down triangle under my eyes, and then adding the Naked Skin all over the face. I find that brightens just a bit more, and gives just a little more coverage while still allowing the skin to breathe.
If you’re a make up lover who is into the no make up look, I’d love to hear what you use on your face down in the comments section below!
