I probably should’ve cleaned my mirror before taking this selfie, but ah well. So a few weeks ago I completely slit my absolute favorite pair of jeans. It was more of a shredding than a slit, and they are beyond repair. I was gutted because they were everything I’d ever wanted in a great pair of denim - just the right amount of give, slightly loose fit, high waist, and so comfortable. After searching high and low for the same pair, I gave up. They were over six years old so I don’t think they make them anymore (they were by a brand called GRLFRND but I cannot find the exact style).
Anyway, I went down a rabbit hole searching for a new go-to pair of denim that fit just like the ones I had. The challenge is that I’m short (barely 5’1) and my legs and butt are thicker than the design for most jeans where the waist fits (I find I’m between a 25 and 26), so I have to try ten million pairs on before I can find the right one. I ordered a number of pairs of jeans from ShopBop and did a little at-home try on, and then sent back what didn’t work (I love that they have free shipping and free returns). Here’s what I ordered, and the winning pair:
These Good American jeans were fantastic, and if I had a bigger budget I would’ve kept these, too. I ordered both the 0 and 2, and I would’ve kept the 0, so if you’re between sizes, take the size down. I liked that they had just the right amount of stretch to them, and were a good length for me. I also like the X design through the belt loops at the back - I think that’s here to prevent the back from puckering out when you sit down. They seemed really well made, and I liked the fit and material a lot.
2. I’d heard such good things about the SLVRLAKE brand, so I thought I’d give them a try, and these ended up being the ones I kept. The quality felt slightly better than Good American, and I ordered both the 25 and 26, but the 25 fit better, so take the size down if you’re between sizing. They have just the right amount of stretch, are a medium denim weight, and the wash is something I feel like you can wear year round.
3. I got this Citizens of Humanity pair and liked them a lot. If I had an unlimited budget, I would’ve kept them too. They were super oversized on me, and I preferred the look of the 26’s because of the length of them - I wanted them super boyfriend style and all the way down to the ground. They are very lightweight though, and would be awesome in the summer with a little tube top or something - but I just couldn’t justify the price knowing that I felt like you couldn’t really wear them in New England between, like, September through April.
