One of the perks of blogging is being sent press packages. Sometimes the things I’m sent are duds, and sometimes they rule. In this case, it’s the latter.
When I first turned thirty, I decided enough was enough, and I needed to learn how to do my hair. All around me, women were curling their hair, doing fishtail braids, and styling their hair in all these seemingly effortless ways, and I just felt like I had no clue where to start. Aside from owning a blowdryer and a hair straightener from my college years, I really didn’t know much. So over the last five years I’ve made a slight effort, and I’ve gotten to a place now where I feel okay with my hair styling capabilities.
Last year, my stylist told me to cool it with the heat styling since it can be so damaging to hair, so I’m always looking for ways to avoid blowdrying. In a recent press box, I was gifted a line of IGK Hair products, and I experimented with them until I came up with this super simple no heat curly hair tutorial. The end result is big volume, texture, and the best part is that it took very little effort. Here we go:
Shower and wash your hair. Get out and use a wet brush to comb IGK Hair Mistress Hair Balm through it. I’ve done this style with and without the hair balm. I’ve found that the hair balm gives more defined crimps, whereas you’ll get more loose curls without the hair balm. French braid your hair and then sleep in it. It’ll dry overnight.
The next day, take out the braids.
The crimps will look cool, but you’ll have zero volume at the roots, which I don’t love, so…
Grab the IGK Hair Spirulina Protein Smoothing Spray and the Beach Club Texture Spray.
Spritz the Smoothing spray throughout. Then lift your hair and spritz the texture spray from the roots down.
Use your hands to scrunch and release your hair throughout.
The end result is volume, definition and texture!
