We are one step closer to being settled in our new place after renting a van and going up to Germany this past weekend to get our belongings. We spent the majority of the weekend unpacking, but we've still got a long way to go. Moving can be so overwhelming and stressful, but I'm feeling really grateful for all the help and support we've had from friends and family. All their help - between translation to making phone calls to keeping watch over our stuff for months - has made this transition just that much easier, and I am so appreciative.
One of the best things about unpacking is pulling out stuff that leads you down memory lane, like this handmade mirrored elephant I picked up during my trip to India. I remember picking it out and haggling with the man in the crowded Saturday night market. I even walked away at one point because his price was ridiculous and I knew I could get it cheaper (he eventually chased me down with the elephant and took my offer).
Or these books - a few of which I scooped up in the airport at the end of my trip to Dubai to get rid of my dirham. I was racing to catch my flight and I had just enough for three books.
And this beautiful tea set that my yoga class in Germany gave me last year before I left. I cried when I opened it because they were like family, and it was such a thoughtful gift. I am going back there at the end of the month to teach a workshop, and can't wait to see them again.
Have you ever moved? Any good strategies for keeping your sanity? :)
