I'm currently in the middle of a bunch of books which is both a blessing (yay for great books) and a curse (it's taking forever to finish each one). These are the latest ones I finished and really liked, so I'm sharing them today in the hopes that you'll tell me your current favorites so I can add more to my to-read list.
This is a thriller set in Denmark about a nurse who owes a friend a favor. The favor, says the friend, is to "pick up the suitcase in a public locker and then figure it out." But when she opens the suitcase she finds a drugged 3 year old. This is a bit reminiscent of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but not as violent.
It took me a little while to get into it, but this book came highly recommended by a friend, so I stuck it out and I am so glad that I did. It's about twin boys born to a nun and a brilliant but cold British surgeon who work and live at a clinic in Ethiopia. Their mother dies in childbirth and their father subsequently takes off, leaving the boys to be raised by an Indian nurse and an internal medicine specialist at the clinic. The characters are so well developed, and the story is both heartwarming and heartbreaking. Huge surprises toward the end of the book!
Cecilia stumbles on a letter in the attic written by her husband. The letter contains his darkest secret, and the envelope asks her not to read it until he has passed away. The problem is that he is very much alive. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, just wanting to find out what the letter says. When you find out, you won't believe how it impacts the family and the small, closely knit town. A quick read with great character development.
Tell me, what are you current reads?
PS- A couple other book recommendations for you.
