Hate is a strong word. So let's just say that I do not enjoy lizard pose in the least. It may or may not be why I only did one side in the video (I know, I know - so bad). This pose freaking kills me. But you know what they say?
The pose you like the least is the one you need most.
So maybe I'll try to make friends with this pose. I think I'll challenge myself to throw it in every practice I do for the next few weeks and see if my feelings change.
Anyway. If you're looking to work the hips, or are on a mission to learn to do splits, lizard pose will be your best friend. It can be quite uncomfortable, so I recommend modifying by putting the back knee down and using a yoga block or two for props as shown in the video below. Breathe in the pose for as long as you comfortably can, and then gently release.
