And it's Monday! How does it come so fast?!
Last week was crazy busy for me so I spent the weekend taking it slow. I am almost finished with my latest book, a memoir about this guy whose wife becomes addicted to methamphetamine. Definitely not the book to read before bed - I keep waking up with my teeth hurting from my jaw clenching while I sleep. I can't handle the stress of the book but I can't seem to put it down! Does that ever happen to you? Are you reading anything good? Tell me below!
I tried to fit in a workout both days this weekend since I had spent so many hours in the car traveling earlier. I have to say, weekend gym culture between Europe (or at least Germany and the Czech Republic) and the US is so, so different! I mean, I think we can all agree that going to the gym mid-morning on Saturday in the US translates to crowded weight rooms and classes. In Germany and the Czech Republic? The gyms are pretty much empty! It's fantastic.
However, because my gym is an hour and fifteen minutes away, I stayed close to home on Sunday and did a jump rope cardio workout. I use this jump rope which I like because it's adjustable, and works so well (you know how some jump ropes will be too light or too heavy? This one is perfect.) If you've never done a jump rope workout, you must. It is no freaking joke! You build up such a good sweat, and I love that you can pretty much do it anywhere.
I do the following:
5 minute double jump warm up
45 second plank
2 minute single jump as fast as possible
45 second plank
2 minute single jump as fast as possible
45 second plank
Repeat two or three times, depending on energy level. It's a great way to burn fat because it speeds up and slows down the heart rate that sort of mimics sprint training, and it's a workout I actually look forward to because it's so much fun. Anyway, I recently added some new songs to my cardio playlist (I'm @yogabycandace on spotify, if you want to connect) including that new Taylor Swift song, Fireball by Pitbull (which reminds me of that scene from The Mask), and the new Usher song. I put those three on and they get me through one phase of the above jump rope routine. So good!
I also edited a video from my latest workshop in Berlin. My camera unfortunately cut off about halfway through - I really need to figure out why that keeps happening, but you can check out above. It was a cool chair yoga event with stress-management techniques designed especially for the group of twenty-five. Karen, the organizer of the event, wrote a review of the workshop on Yogilation, if you'd like to read more. Feel free to get in touch to discuss specialized workshops for your co-workers, friends or family!
This weekend I also spent some time prepping for our upcoming yoga retreats. If you're interested, there's a Greece yoga retreat, an Ibiza yoga retreat and a Costa Rica yoga and surf retreat to choose from, and I'd love to have you! Please get in touch with any questions at all!
Here's to a fabulous week ahead!
