Three Reasons Why You Need a Juicer

The orange drink

The orange drink

About a week ago, I purchased a juicer and I've been juicing veggies and fruit every day since. I am not kidding when I say it is life changing. Here's why:

1. I've got endless energy

I used to have afternoon "crashes" from around 1pm-3pm. I'd feel exhausted and overextended, even if I didn't do all that much prior. Ever since I started juicing, it's completely gone. Not only do I have the energy to get through my day, but I have more energy than ever before.

2. The health benefits go on and on

Just to name a few: Juicing promotes alkalinity in the body. It is said that disease cannot survive in an alkaline environment, so by adding this juice into your diet you're changing the pH of your body for the better. A higher alkalinity in turn reduces inflammation, so for someone who's got arthritis, this is seriously life changing. Also, juicing takes out the fiber from the fruits and veggies, leaving all of the nutrients. It's not that fiber is a bad thing by any means, but if you were to eat all of those fruits and veggies that you would juice, your body would work too hard to digest it and it'd end up in the toilet. Instead, your body is able to quickly absorb all of the nutrients into the bloodstream.

3. They taste delicious

A lot of people have asked me whether you can taste the spinach or the celery or whatever ingredient. As long as you put in enough of a citrus or apple, you will not taste anything you don't want to taste! (The first juice I made was arugula, ginger, cucumber and celery and let me just say, it was no bueno. But then I added a lemon, and all was well.)

The Juicer

I bought the German version of a Breville juicer (Breville sold the design rights- it is the exact same juicer basically). It is currently selling for 139 euro in Europe and on sale for $99 in the states, so in a world where some juicers go for upwards of $400, it's a good price. Clean up is fine- the hardest part is the mesh dish, but it comes with a special brush to clean it and takes less than 5 minutes. Everything else can be put in the dishwasher.
