The Manduka black mat pro, the holy grail of yoga mats, landed underneath my Christmas tree a few weeks ago and now that I've broken it in and have used it almost daily since its arrival I thought I'd share my thoughts.
PROS: It's thick and cushiony without being too cushiony. Yes, you read that right. If a mat has too much give, I often find it hard to balance. This is both firm so you can keep your balance, yet cushiony so your joints will be protected.
Its fabric-like material ensures zero slip, even when I'm sweaty.
Usually within two weeks of daily use my mats have at least one or two nicks in them with material peeling away. So far, this baby has held up without any sign of wear.
Lifetime guarantee. Need I say more? Manduka replaces the mat for nearly any reason (including wear and tear from regular use). This is the last mat I'll ever have to buy.
CONS: It weighs a ton. Ok, not a ton, but seven pounds. Seriously.
It is pricey. Close to $100 pricey.
Verdict: For me, it's a keeper. Yes, it weighs a lot, but I practice at home so I'm rarely taking it anywhere. Yes, it is expensive, but it comes with a lifetime guarantee. It is so different from any other mat I've used, and my creaky joints are forever grateful. Click here to buy your own.
