I was just reading this piece by David Sedaris about hosting guests and he talks about how he reminds his boyfriend of their pact to play the role of perfect couple for the duration of the visit. Do you guys do the same? We don't, probably much to the dismay of our guests. I mean don't get me wrong, we abide by our long standing rule that we won't ever argue in public or throw one another under the bus because that just makes everyone uncomfortable, but we just don't see the need to pretend to be a perfect couple. I feel that makes people feel just as uncomfortable as having a full out argument in public. So we're just ourselves.
Anyway, this is all relevant because my mom was in town visiting for the week. She stayed with us and honestly it was one of the best visits we've had. Living so far away makes me appreciate the time I get with my family even more.
