The post was sponsored by Wedderspoon Organic, a small business from Canada whose products I love and believe in. All opinions are my own.
I haven't been sick in over a year. Over a year. The more research I've done on gut health through following the GAPS diet, the more I've grown to believe that when the immune system is healthy, the body thrives. In all honesty, it had come to be a bit of an ego thing for me. My husband would come down with some awful illness and I'd somehow manage to stay healthy. When all the people close to me were coming down with a cold, I felt perfectly fine. I started to feel like there was no possible way I could get sick if my immune system was healthy.
And then November 2nd rolled around, and I embarked on a three and a half week travel adventure that took me from Europe to Florida to Costa Rica and back again, and lo and behold, I got sick. What began as a scratchy throat has become a full blown coughing, fever, ears-popping, lost voice kind of thing. (Wait til you hear tomorrow's yoga video voiceover which was recorded yesterday - woah!)
And everything is infinitely more terrible with you're sick, am I right? Suddenly not having my dog around (he's back home in the US) made me want to cry, and I missed my mom desperately and wished she were close by to come take care of me (I'm thirty, people). Anyway, I did what felt best - put on my favorite pajamas (ok that's a lie, I actually just never got dressed), dragged my comforter to the couch and watched my favorite holiday movie (and then instagrammed it, because otherwise there'd be no proof that it happened, right?! Ha!)
A few weeks ago, Wedderspoon Organic, a company I know and love, contacted me to see if they could send me some of their goods (#bloggerperk!). They sent a great little sampling of items including:
Organic lozenges with honey and bee propolis, raw manuka honey and dandelion honey, a manuka beeswax candle, contour cream with bee venom and manuka honey, and lip balm, and I spent yesterday testing out the products. As it turns out, they're all pretty great if you're having a sick day at home.
The lozenges were an obvious benefit, soothing my throat, while I used the honey to sweeten homemade lemon ginger tea. I was so grateful for the candle because beeswax candles actually purify the air (as opposed to many scented candles which can emit toxic fumes).
I lathered on that contour cream and lip balm after using one of my favorite resurfacing masks and found both Wedderspoon products to be extremely hydrating and soothing to my skin and lips.
What I love about Wedderspoon is that they're a small, family business who is passionate about bringing quality organic products to the market. Further, their products are non-gmo verified, which is always a bonus in my book. These are the types of companies I want to be supporting this holiday season. If you're looking for a good gift, I highly recommend checking out their site. From manuka honey soaps to raw manuka honey, there'll be something for everyone on your list.
