I'm a pretty huge fan of DIY masks. If you follow along on snapchat (@yogaby_candace), you'll see my creations from yogurt + cacao to honey + cinnamon (go easy on the cinnamon, or else!). When Matcha Maiden sent some of their organic matcha green tea to the office a few weeks back, I knew immediately that in addition to drinking it, I'd use the powder in a face mask.
I like to keep things simple when it comes to masks, so I just used homemade yogurt (about a tablespoon) and the same amount of Matcha Maiden green tea powder. I mixed them together over the sink to catch spillage, and smeared it on my face while I started my morning. I drank my lemon salt water, brushed my teeth, made breakfast.
When I was struggling with breakouts this summer (the result of way too much stress), one of my very best friends, a nutritional therapy practitioner, advised topical probiotic masks made from a yogurt base. The yogurt is so cooling, so if you have inflammation, this is a fantastic base. It also made a visible difference in my skin after just 10 minutes of wearing it. Anyway, yogurt is now one of my favorite bases for a mask because of how cooling and soothing it is to inflamed skin, and I absolutely love how it feels. Combined with the matcha, I felt like this mask was soothing, gentle and would be perfect for morning or evening. Give it a try and let me know how you like it down in the comments below. And if you make your own DIY masks, I'd love to hear what ingredients you use!
